I took a trip to the If Music Store, 2nd Floor, above the paint shop and that got me hooked on the sound of COPA SALVO.

“You NEED this!” said Jean-Claude. “They're an amazing and unique Jazzy Combo from Japan!” But at the time I was stuck in some dead end Gulag job getting things together for the launch of a record label idea I'd been working on and the bobs were just not in abundance. Especially in the part of the wallet marked “Japanese Vinyl Import Department.

Looking for more COPA SALVO as I was really intrigued by the sound they produced and, over a period of time I managed to obtain nearly all of their sparse catalog. Once Jazz Room Records had started to get established and the release of the Colin Curtis Presents: indigo jam unit compilation had been a success.

I'll never forget it. No, I could never forget it. An email arrived around 10:00 PM on April 19, 2023. It was from the UK! The sender was...huh? Huh? Paul Murphy!? Sensing it wasn't spam, I checked the message to see what it was about. It said, "We'd like to release a COPA SALVO record. Could you help us?" Seriously?! That was three days before the band's comeback concert after a hiatus. There was definitely some kind of power at work here. I was shaking. If this isn't a miracle, then what is? I immediately called members Masuda, Kobayashi, and Peach, wanting to share this miracle. (Their hilarious reactions would take too long to write here, so if you're interested, please ask me directly. It had a perfect punchline. As expected, haha.) It was the perfect cover for everyone nervous about restarting. A little over a year and a half has passed since then. The release date has finally been set, and this selection features tracks from . The tracklist is, of course, Paul Murphy. Club music fans have likely heard of him at least once. He contributed immensely to the creation of Acid Jazz, a British music culture that swept Japan and the world in the 1990s. In fact, he was a pioneer, a major influence on artists like Gilles Peterson. Here, we present COPA SALVO, a jazz band captured through his trustworthy aesthetic eye. The tracklisting is fascinating, and it's a fascinating read. With the global trend of discovering bands from the 2000s Japanese club scene, it makes perfect sense that they'd land here. This album represents the culmination of their work up to the release of Mango-Logy in 2006, and their return aboard the Black Ship. Let me say this punchline: It's finally here! I have no doubt they'll make a meteoric rise from here on out. I'm honored to have had even a small part in their work. And thank you

... And over the course of a while, I was able to acquire most of their limited catalog. With Jazz Room Records established and the success of the Colin Curtis Presents: Indigo Jam Unit compilation, I thought, "It's time for COPA SALVO to make their Jazz Room debut!" This Jazz Room Records compilation features their unique and highly original productions, an energetic meltdown of funk, J-Jazz, Afro-Cuban, and boogaloo. From the heavy Latin jazz vibes of Bolivia 67 to the kung fu 70s style of Tong King Rock. Vocals/Gyro: Tadahiro Masuda Piano: Eri Konishi Bass: Hironori Kobayashi Percussion: Hiroshi Sato Percussion: Pyon Nakajima Timbales/Drums: Peach Iwasaki
